Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information Solara Life Sciences collects, why, who it is shared with, and how to ask about it. It follows Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who is responsible
Solara Life Sciences is responsible for the personal information it collects, including information it passes to service providers, which are bound by contract to protect it. Questions about this policy go to the privacy contact: hello@solaralifesciences.ca.
What is collected
- When an order is placed: name, shipping address, email address, phone number if given, the items ordered, and the Interac e-Transfer details needed to match a payment to an order.
- When someone writes to Solara: their name, email address and the message.
- When someone visits the site: standard server logs kept by the hosting provider (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time), used to run and secure the site.
The site sets no advertising cookies and runs no third-party advertising trackers. The site uses Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying individual visitors.
Why it is used
- To process, ship and support an order.
- To answer a message.
- To keep the business records that tax law requires.
- To keep the site secure.
Solara collects only what these purposes need. Personal information is not sold, rented or used for advertising.
Placing an order or writing to Solara is consent to these uses. Consent can be withdrawn, subject to legal and contractual limits, by writing to the privacy contact; an order already placed still needs the details required to complete and record it.
Who it is shared with
- The shipping carrier, which receives the name and address on the parcel: Canada Post, UPS or Canpar, depending on the destination.
- The bank that processes Interac e-Transfers, which sees the payment details the buyer sends.
- The email providers that carry Solara's mail: Proton Mail, which hosts Solara's mailbox, and Resend, which sends order confirmations.
- The website host, Vercel Inc., whose servers may be outside Canada, so information may be processed in another country under that country's laws.
- Professional advisers and authorities, only where the law requires it.
How long it is kept
Order records are kept for as long as Canadian tax law requires (generally six years), then deleted. Messages are kept only as long as needed to answer them. Server logs are kept by the host for a limited period, for security.
Accuracy and safeguards
Information is kept accurate for its purpose and corrected on request. It is protected by safeguards suited to its sensitivity. A breach that creates a real risk of significant harm is reported to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and to the people affected.
Access, correction and complaints
Anyone can ask to see the personal information Solara holds about them, or to correct it, by writing to the privacy contact above. Requests are answered within 30 days at no cost. A concern that is not resolved can be taken to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
